Mercury

Much work is being done in the Philippines related to mercury. An important objective of national project activities in the Philippines that is linked to the project's work in model facilities is to introduce the use of mercury-free devices in these facilities, evaluate their acceptability and efficacy, and develop and disseminate awareness-raising and educational materials related to mercury.

As an international conference on mercury organized by Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was held in the Philippines in January 2006, hosting an additional mercury conference as outlined in the project objectives will be considered optional.
